Following the resignation of a Councillor, the Parish Council is issuing a Public Notice advertising a Casual Vacancy in its Broughton Ward.

The request to hold an election can only come from residents residing in the Ward that the vacancy has arisen.

Closing date is now: 12 October 2018.

Notice has been received that Cosby Road will be temporarily closed for a period of up to 2 weeks commencing on Monday 13 August 2018.

The purpose of this closure is to allow for works and junction improvements.

Following a number of telephone calls to the Parish Office this morning asking why the access point onto Broughton Way from the public footpath across Thomas Estley Community Colleges playing fields had been fenced off, the Parish Council can confirm that this has been rectified.

Arriva and Hinckley Bus have announced variations to their timetables to provide extra capacity for carrying students including those from Broughton Astley to Lutterworth College . To do this they are making minor timetable adjustments to cater for the passengers.

The Parish Council are saddened to report that a number of trees, waste bins and play equipment were damaged by vandals in the Recreation Ground on Wednesday 18 July 2018.

One tree, a Silver Birch, was felled completely and a Memorial Tree planted by the WI for their 100 years Anniversary was severely damaged.

Following the positive reception received from the large poppies placed on lamp posts in the village in time for last years Remembrance Parade, the Parish Council are planning to erect a minimum of 100 of these poppies again this year to mark 100 years since the end of WWI.

Broughton Astley Carnival 2018 takes place on Thomas Estley field and in the Village Hall on Saturday 23 June 2018.

This years theme is 'The Magic of Musicals'.

The parade will commence at 12noon when a rolling road block will be in place to allow safe access for the parade vehicles and participants.

On the field will be live music, BBQ, Stalls, Tug 'O' War, beer tent etc.

A (temporary) permissive footpath has been installed and opened by Leicestershire County Council (with permission of Jelson Ltd) to provide a safe route for pedestrians from Cosby Road to the new Aldi store.

The entrance / exit is opposite Willowbrook Road and follows the boundary hedge around the field and the exit / entrance is by the light controlled crossing on Broughton Way.
