Due to the current Covid-19 crisis there will not be a parade held this year.

Following much discussion, clarification and thought between the Parish Council, Royal British Legion (RBL-BA) and local churches, the plan for the Broughton Astley Remembrance Service 2020 is detailed below.

This year, ownership, and responsibility for any local events to do with acts of Remembrance has been handed to Local Councils, supported by the RBL. This and the current situation that we in regarding the Covid Pandemic mean that things will be a lot different to previous years.

The important fact that takes priority is the safety and welfare of the public. Restrictions created by Covid 19, such as the rule of six, social distancing and the ban on mass gatherings in a public place, has meant that the planning for this year's event has been particularly difficult and the fact that we are able to hold the event is a credit to all those involved.

As a result, however this year's Remembrance Service will be a significantly reduced and restricted affair. We understand that this will be a disappointment to many, but we must abide by the current regulations. The penalties in the form of possible prosecution and fines has been much publicised and as a community we cannot fall foul of this.

At 1100hrs on Sunday 8 November 2020, a Remembrance Service will be held in the Broughton Astley Memorial Garden. This will be held in accordance with the current Covid restrictions being adhered to.

There will be six representatives, from the Parish Council, the Church, RBL-BA, and the Military. During the service prayers will be said and The Act of Remembrance carried out.

The service will be much shorter than in previous years as there will be no parade or social event afterwards.

However, it is hoped that members of the community can mark the event by displaying poppies in their windows and marking the Two Minute Silence on their doorsteps and not to gather at the War Memorial as in previous years. It is not what we would have asked for but, unfortunately, for this year it is what it is.

Due to the current situation and to ensure social distancing is adhered to, we are having to operate a booking system for this year for the laying of wreaths. Therefore, we are asking that if there anyone who would like to lay a wreath to please contact the Parish Council Office on 01455 285655 to arrange a suitable time.

A small gathering on 11 November 2020 will take place at the War Memorial at 1100hrs as is traditional where the Church and RBL-BA will be represented, but again, please ask that you do not gather there at this time.

Thank you for your co-operation during this difficult time
