UPDATE ON ROAD CLOSURES
Following a meeting last week with Leicestershire County Council Highways Department and subsequent emails since, as Parish Manager I can confirm that I was able to raise concerns and complaints received from residents over the road closures currently being experienced in Broughton Astley and surrounding Parishes. It was respectfully pointed out that the official diversion route not only doubled the distance for people heading to Lutterworth, but depending on time of day has more than doubled the journey time. Also raised at this meeting the possible impact of future planned works and have requested that the County Council provides the Parish with more detailed information as to the reasons behind a road closure as well as providing more notice where possible to allow this to be communicated to the public. Confirmation on the following can now be provided:
Cottage Lane, Broughton Astley will remain closed until the Severn Trent works on Dunton Road/Station Road are complete.
Shuttleworth Lane, Cosby and Church Lane, Dunton Bassett will remain open but will be closely monitored by the Highways Department and maybe closed if deemed unsafe for use.
County Council are also aware that local traffic has chosen not to use the signed diversion route which has led to the closure of Cottage Lane, but appreciate that this may cause delays for local residents but 'as the Highway Authority the main concern is ensuring roads are in a safe and usable condition which has to take precedence over everything else'.
Any concerns over any aspects of Highway matters should be directed by telephoning the County Council on 0116 305 0001 or by contacting your local County Councillor Bill Liquorish on email@example.com
