BROUGHTON ASTLEY IN WARTIME

Broughton Astley Heritage Society are putting on a display of pictures, photos and artefacts of Broughton Astley and the local area during Wartime in St Mary's Church on:

Friday 9 November 10am-3pm and

Saturday 10 November 10am-3pm - (Refreshments will be served from 10am-12noon)

Sunday 11 November 12noon-2pm

Entry is free

Dinner and Dance

The Parish Office staff are hosting a Dinner and Dance on

Friday 9 November 2018 at 6.30-10.00pm

A two course meal will be served using authentic wartime recipes.

Music will be provided by the Ibstock Brick Brass Band who will be playing popular music and songs from both World Wars.

TICKETS £6 PER PERSON

All proceeds will go to the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.

LAMP POST POPPY SPONSORSHIP

The Parish Council are still accepting sponsorships for the large lamp post poppies.

All monies raised will go to the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.

Please complete the attached form and return it to the Parish Office no later than Monday 5 November 2018.

CASUAL VACANCY - ASTLEY WARD

Following the resignation of a Councillor, the Parish Council is issuing a Public Notice advertising a Casual Vacancy in its Astley Ward.

The request to hold an election can only come from residents residing in the Ward that the vacancy has arisen.

Closing date is: 18 October 2018.

BUS TIMETABLE ALTERATIONS FOR 84/x84 & x84R

Arriva and Hinckley Bus have announced variations to their timetables to provide extra capacity for carrying students including those from Broughton Astley to Lutterworth College . To do this they are making minor timetable adjustments to cater for the passengers.

VANDALISM AT RECREATION GROUND

The Parish Council are saddened to report that a number of trees, waste bins and play equipment were damaged by vandals in the Recreation Ground on Wednesday 18 July 2018.

One tree, a Silver Birch, was felled completely and a Memorial Tree planted by the WI for their 100 years Anniversary was severely damaged.

WWI LAMP POST POPPY SPONSORSHIP

Following the positive reception received from the large poppies placed on lamp posts in the village in time for last years Remembrance Parade, the Parish Council are planning to erect a minimum of 100 of these poppies again this year to mark 100 years since the end of WWI.

CARNIVAL 2018

Broughton Astley Carnival 2018 takes place on Thomas Estley field and in the Village Hall on Saturday 23 June 2018.

This years theme is 'The Magic of Musicals'.

The parade will commence at 12noon when a rolling road block will be in place to allow safe access for the parade vehicles and participants.

On the field will be live music, BBQ, Stalls, Tug 'O' War, beer tent etc.
